  • Ch-ch-ch- changes!

Well well well, it’s been awhile, folks! I have been very quiet and reclusive in the past few months, and BOY do I have a lot to tell you!

For the past year and a half, I have been experiencing a range of health problems, both mental and physical. I began having heart palpitations last year. As someone with a family history of heart disease, this was very concerning to me. I started seeing my doctor once every 8 weeks for almost a year to monitor this. During the course of this time, labs were taken, scans were done. I had an Echo, bloodwork with autoimmune panels, the works! And absolutely everything came back normal. Along with the heart palpitations, I was also experiencing severe water retention in my legs and hands (peripheral edema), which further struck me as a possible cardiac issue. My mental health was also being poorly treated. I was experiencing an extreme amount of stress, and dissatisfaction with the job I have been with for 4 1/2 years.

The conclusion my doctor and I came to was that the combination of dissatisfaction with work, poor self-care, and poor compliance with my mental health treatments resulted in somatic physical responses. I had a severe (almost hospital-grade) Vitamin-D deficiency, and was dangerously dehydrated. I was not taking my medication with regularity, and would go weeks without it.

    I. Was NOT. Taking care of myself.

    So, I quit my job.

The job that inspired me to go back to college. The job that made it so I was able to buy a house, and provide for my family on a single income for years. I quit.

I left on good terms, working a full two-week notice and everything. But I would be lying if I said it didn’t take a major crashout to get there!

As a result of the burnout, I haven’t written anything in 3 months. I became dissatisfied with the writing process, and the story I am trying to craft.

I will be continuing the story, as I fully believe in it. I’m just simply in the very rough portion of the writing process. Getting the damn story written!

In the past few weeks, I have written maybe 2000 words, at most. However, it’s more than I’ve written in months!

I also got myself a new job, YAY! However, I am focusing much more on self-care now, so I will be taking a week and a half off before beginning my new job, to rest, recover, and recharge.

All in all, I am going through a tremendous transition in my life right now. Bear with me, and stay haunted~

  • Depression and Writing

It can be very hard. Motivating yourself to write…

When you have a mental illness, sometimes it feels like that is the only thing that exists in the world. Everything else important fades away, and your illness becomes the sole subject of all of your focus. nothing else exists

I suppose it doesn’t extend just to writing, but to everything else in life as well. Maybe it’s the imposter syndrome, or maybe I really just suck that much, and I’m kidding myself into believing that- through the power of hard-work and determination, maybe… just maybe, I’ll be able to make myself something more than just a product of my upbringing. Something more than just another statistic of unwed teenage mothers. Never accomplishing anything. Never amounting to anything. Just existing until I die..

I don’t even know why I continue…. It’s not like anyone will ever read this…

  • Little Red Book (And our responsibility as guests)

In the wake of the TikTok ban, and growing disapproval from the American people towards our government, where will TikTok users go?

Well, It seems many have found refuge on the app REDnote.

    Why not Douyin?

A few native REDnote users have asked me why we don’t go to Douyin. Douyin is the Chinese TikTok. A quick google search reveals that You can’t use Douyin in America. It is only available within China. This is due to strict content moderation and data privacy regulations enforced by the Chinese Government. That being said, TikTok is the international version available everywhere else. Ideally, we would love to simply jump over to the Chinese version. But, the sad answer is that it is simply not an option.

    What is REDnote?

REDnote is a Chinese social media app that uses short-form video content, along with pictures. It is sort of like the DanceByte owned app Lemon8 or Instagram. However, it more closely resembles TikTok, which is what American users are used to. While REDnote is not Chinese TikTok, they operate very similarly. REDnote is correctly called “little red book”. This name is a reference to the book “Quotations from Chairman Mao Zedong”. The book contains 267 aphorisms from the Communist Chinese leader. It covers subjects such as class struggle, “correcting mistaken ideas” and the “mass line”. It wasriginally produced in 1964 by the People’s Liberation Army . The book was originally called “200 Quotations from Chairman Mao.” It soon became a key feature of the leaders’ cult of personality, according to the BBC.

    Why is America banning TikTok?

It basically comes down to fear-mongering. For our entire lives, Americans have been taught that the Chinese are our enemies. That they hate us because of our freedoms, and that we must defend those freedoms at all costs. However, what I (and many other TikTok refugees) have found, is that could not be further from the truth. The Chinese have been very friendly and welcoming to us American guests. They care little to nothing about the freedoms we cling to so vehemently. To them, we are a non-issue. As Americans, we are taught that we are the kings of the world. That we are the greatest, the most important, and that everyone wants to be us. This is, put simply, a lie.

So, what better way to uphold these ideals, than to prevent us from finding out the truth?

The American Legislators want to ban TikTok. They argue that it presents a National Security risk to the American People. There are young users on the app who may become members of congress, military, or otherwise someday. Their activity on the app now may put them at risk for blackmail in the future. This is, obviously, complete nonsense.

We learned from the appointment of Justice Brett Kavanaugh to the supreme court. It shows that committing crimes does not prevent someone from serving the people. The same is true for convicted felon Donald Trump being elected to POTUS twice. Doing horrible things does not, in any way, stop someone from serving the people. That is, as long as they have enough money to throw at the people making the decisions.

In reality, they are banning TikTok because we use it to organize. We use it to rally together to get the things we want done. We use TikTok to organize when we don’t like something our government is doing. We speak up about it. The results have been overwhelmingly positive to date.

Back in 2020, Donald Trump held a rally in Tulsa, OK. Much like any of his rally’s. However, this one was slightly different. Trump had been boasting that he was going to draw the largest crowd ever. He even posted a tweet. He asked his supporters to register for free tickets to his rally right from their phones. This was where he messed up. Hundreds of thousands of TikTok users took action. These included teens and K-Pop fans. They grabbed all the tickets. They had no intention of actually attending the rally. The aim was to artificially inflate prospective attendance, resulting in an embarrassing moment for Trump. The campaign was wildly successful, resulting in attendance of only around 6,200 people out of the anticipated 19,000+. We embarrassed Trump, and that’s why it’s being banned. Plain and simple.

What is our responsibility as guests on REDnote?

    • Remember, we are guests
    • Be respectful
    • Be kind
    • Do not try to bring American Ideals to the platform
    • Learn at least a little Chinese
    • Understand that not everyone will accept your presence there
    • Dont. Shit. In. The. Kitchen.

REDnote is not our space, it is not our home. We are simply seeking refuge there. Tread lightly, and don’t touch anything.

  • TikTok Ban (And Why It’s B*llsh!t)

    “I really like corn”

    Cringy boys

    WombLands

    Nyadollie

    Leah Halton

    Bella Poarch

These are just a few of the biggest things to come out of TikTok over the past few years.

This TikTok ban, make no mistake, has 110% nothing to do with national security. It is absolutely about controlling the narrative, and controlling the way we think.

TikTok is an American Company. Lets begin here:

It is a SUBSIDIARY of a PARENT company called ByteDance. It is an LLC (Limited Liability Company) that is incorporated through Delaware, and based in California.

While it’s Parent company, ByteDance is a Chinese company, the very basic structure of what an LLC is, and how that works under American Business Law prevents ByteDance from having ANY hand in how Tik Tok LLC handles their business. The only connection they have is a shared algorithm.

Now before you panic about that: all that means is that the system uses a set of instructions that tells a computer how to perform a task or solve a problem. That’s it. They simply use the same kind of techniques for problem solving. They are not connected in any way.

Now, you may be asking yourself “what is a subsidiary?”

A subsidiary is defined as  a business entity or corporation that is fully owned or partially controlled by another company, termed as the parent, or holding, company by the corporate finance institute.

A subsidiary, by definition, acts independently of the parent company. It’s obligations are purely their own, with the parent company holding little to no liability for the actions of their subsidiary.

Now: What does it mean for a company to be incorporated?

Put simply: When a business is incorporated, it becomes a legally distinct entity from its owners, and is recognized by the state as its own business structure.

    Being incorporated allows the company:

    • Liability protectionIncorporation protects the owners from personal liability.
    • Tax advantagesIncorporated businesses can deduct certain expenses, such as employee benefits, real estate investments, and salaries.
    • CredibilityIncorporated businesses are often seen as more credible by potential customers, employees, and vendors.
    • GovernanceIncorporation provides a structured approach to ownership transfers and governance.

To incorporate a business, the owners must file “articles of incorporation” with the state agency where the business is located. These articles include information about the business’s purpose, location, and any shares or stock issued.

But there is another side to this issue, and that is indie businesses.

I am an avid member of BookTok. While I may not be known on it (or anywhere, really), TikTok has allowed me to feel less alone. I see other people writing, other artists, writers, musicians, small business owners, etc. Thriving on TikTok. Indie book stores who struggled during the 2020 COVID-19 Pandemic have found a new home where their businesses can flourish.

And again, for people like me, it’s a home. Weather I’m doom scrolling at 3 am, or learning how to make sourdough starter, Tik Tok has become a home.

I’m not going to argue about why this is an infringement on the first amendment, as there are others with much more knowledge on the subject than I who have already beat this dead horse into the afterlife.

    I will just say this:

    This is Bullshit.

    Hello, readers.

I intend to start a newsletter, which will be sent out monthly. As I am new to the world of marketing and site development, this work-in-progress will be slow-going for me until I learn to navigate it to it’s full capabilities.

As such, I will be posting my monthly newsletters as blog posts, completely free to you, until I can figure out how to properly set it up.

    Enjoy, and Stay haunted

  • The Wonderful World of My Mind

    Hello, readers. And welcome.

It has always been my dream to be a writer; However, traumatic experiences with terrible people left me withdrawn, uninspired, and terrified to ever put pen to paper again, for fear of retribution.

    I lived that way for 10 years…

That was, until one man showed me my worth. He didn’t do it by catering to me, by coddling or babying me (though many times, I’d wished that he had). No, he did it by showing me that I didn’t need the validation of someone else to define my worth. He showed me that I was strong enough on my own, good enough on my own, *I* was enough on my own.

His love allowed me to heal parts of myself I didn’t even realize were broken. And that’s not to say that everyone who has broken parts just needs true love to heal them, because that’s not true. It is simply how it worked out for me.

These past two years, I began writing again during my college years. Firstly, in a Creative Writing class, where I had a wonderful professor who reminded me just how much I loved writing. He inspired my creative drive to ramp up again after I had long believed it dead, and to do so was a difficult task. I got to put my own work out there for the first time in my life, and was able to compliment and critique others’ work as well. This was truly the turning point for me.

It all started with short stories. As a baby writer, it can be difficult to find your niche; and for a long time, I believed I didn’t have one. I believed I was the exception to the rule, and could write just a little bit of everything. Now, lot’s of writers experiment with genre’s outside their traditional one. But I don’t know of any, personally, that write any and all genre’s. But, I digress.

My first short story was called: “The Flight Attendant”. It was meant to be a horror about a flight attendant who was having an affair with the pilot (original, I know.), and who ends up being haunted by the ghost of his wife, whom he had recently murdered. It was a cautionary tale to say the least. I wrote another called “A page in Time”, where a woman is transported back in time by way of a magic book, and learns to appreciate what she has. Of all the stories I wrote, they all seemed to carry one common theme: Thriller.

I have always been a lover of all things dark, and spooky. All things scary, and gory. What better way to integrate that into my creativity than with my writing? So, I stopped trying to cater to what everyone else wanted to read. Instead, I started to write what *I* wanted to read. Unfortunately, I seem to have tastes that are contrary to what most people consider “good”. But in the end, none of that matters. All that matters is authenticity.

Welcome to the wonderful world of my mind. Come on in, and enjoy the stay.

    ~Tyler
